new website design
I created and designed my personal site nearly a decade ago, while I was in high school. Though I've tweaked, added, and removed, I have never wholly redesigned it.
I was playing with the design for a while - I knew I wanted to strip things back, keep it simple. One idea I had was to remove most design elements and just have content in a soft humanist serif against a plain background. One inspiration was Thinking Machines' site. But after running a few experiments along these lines, I didn't love what I was coming up with.
Instead, I got inspired by minimalist, blocky sans-serif designs with a small text size, like soulseek magazine, Asket's website, Even Realities' site, and other personal sites I found (e.g. Andrew Tarkan, Henderson Dike, via deadsimplesites.com).
I decided to run with this, and slapped a no-padding border around the main content. It's a little annoying and cramped, but that's kind of the point. It's avoiding the elegance of its minimalist inspirations. It's interesting.
