Meredith Whittaker's "Social Media, Authoritarianism, and the World As It Is"

I finally got around to finishing this article by Meredith Whittaker (Signal Foundation president, resigned from Google, real fuckin cool).

The right is fighting to take control of these platforms, while liberals and some on the left are fighting to expand vectors of platform control, without thinking hard enough about who will wield this power and who is likely to get hurt.

Absolutely required reading for forming an understanding of corporate social media, especially in the context of the TikTok bill. I was scared by its length but shouldn't have put it off so long.
